The Fresh Eyes Project is a bold, new workshop process designed to create and develop plays that are innovative in form or subject. Our directors, dramaturgs and actors work alongside the playwright to customize a rehearsal period best suited to the exploration of a particular play.
This year’s Fresh Eyes Project will focus on the exploration of ensemble devised works. Devisers will be teamed up with an ensemble of artists cultivated by the Red Tape staff. In addition, we will provide you with rehearsal space, management support and minimal production resources throughout June and July. Towards the end of July, we will invite everyone involved in FEP and in the Red Tape Ensemble to come see your progress and provide audience response to further the creation of your new masterpiece. At the end of July, we will have a daylong presentation of these world premiere plays open to the public.
Here’s what we need from you:
1-2 page description of project answering the following questions:
List of source materials that inspired your concept
List of artists needed (i.e. five actors, director, guitarist, acrobat, flamenco dancer, etc…)
Description of technical support desired
Resume
Submissions must be emailed to john.rooney@redtapetheatre.org by Friday, February 3rd, 2012. Please put “FEP Submission” in subject of email.
Playwrights fear not! Although we are not considering extant scripts for this year’s Fresh Eyes Project, please send any material that you feel would be right for Red Tape to our Literary Manager, Molly Mullen, at molly.mullen@redtapetheatre.org. We still have a strong desire to produce extant scripts, especially to develop the work of Chicago writers. Any plays of interest to Red Tape will receive a week long workshop throughout our 2012-2013 season.
